Organization and Chaos

We have a couple of games on the shelf that inevitably are a mess inside when you open them. Camel Up, I’m looking at you. Also you, Planet Unknown. We have some solutions for these problems—we have taken the box liners out of some of the games and bagged the components, used rubber bands at times—but wow it’s frustrating when there seemed to be an appropriate solution in the box to keep the game neat and easy to set up and it just doesn’t work. Everything in it’s place and a place for everything, I say! (There’s also a case to be made against hyper-specific liners making the game difficult to put away, but I digress.)

I don’t know if you feel as strongly about the insides of your board game boxes as I do, but I do know that humans like to try to organize things, to make order out of chaos. It’s what all our institutions are, at their base. It’s what law in a society is. It’s the Marie Kondo method we use to put away our clothes or whathaveyou. Our lives aren’t easy. There are so many things we cannot control, so many ways we try to control the chaos that actually cause more harm, ways we call things or people a problem that is misplacement of our pain. We want things to be easier or safer or more recognizable, and sometimes it happens, but sometimes it doesn’t and we are just stuck with the way things are. Yes, like Planet Unknown’s charming but messy box.

Yet we still try to make order and connection. We still try to find community and relationship and joy. Things can be hard and beautiful at the same time.

*ed. note: this photo is massive, but it doesn’t really communicate just how big this box is, nor how many delightful little pieces are in it—you’ll have to see it for yourself!

The Smashburger

One of the best sellers on our menu, 4oz juicy beef patty smashes and surrounded by our fresh vegies. Topped with our signature house sauce. This burger is as classic as it gets and reminds you why the burger is a mainstay on nearly every bar’s menu.

Try it next time you come in to fortify you to play a couple hours of A Feast for Odin!
