Cake or Death
I’ve taken to referring to these paragraphs at the beginning of our weekly email as my Painfully Earnest Blog Posts, which makes me giggle. We are a board game bar—we are about board games and food and drink, but we are also about community and connection. A place of respite like the “free parking” space on the Monopoly board where you can just be. You can also make plans while you sit on that space, reflect on how you got there, laugh at other players’ suffering…wait, I’ve gotten off track here.
Free Parking endeavors to be that place of respite and also of relationship and community. The other week, we had a guest celebrate his birthday with us and the family brought a bundt cake that was much larger than the four of them could eat, so they started asking nearby guests and staff to come have a slice. Another day, I’d taught Azul to a couple at one of the front tables. They were really enjoying it, but had some questions while I was busy with another table. One of our regulars was seated nearby, noticed their confusion, and asked if he could clarify—beautiful. And coming up soon, we will have an event to playtest local designers’ games to offer feedback and help them make their games even better.
All of these things speak to our human need to not be alone, to share what we have, to encourage and build something bigger than ourselves. Maybe it looks like just a slice of cake, and certainly it’s a bit too intense to say our choice is between cake or death, but spaces like this remind us of how much we need each other and how much we need to be filled so we can go back out there and work hard for others.

If you brought in your copy of Pandemic in the last week and are missing the black cure marker from it, please let us know? We have one more than we ought to!
Play Buzzed Out
It’s Taboo plus Hot Potato!
Two teams compete to guess words from minimal clues, but there’s a catch. The clue-givers from each team are passing a single card back and forth after each correct guess, trying not to be caught with the card when the buzzer goes off. Buzzed Out is huge, ludicrous fun!
Try our special Chicken Wrap
Chef Special this weekend and an upcoming permanent addition to Free Parking’s menu! Our Chicken Wrap combines our fresh cut veggies (romaine lettuce, red onions, and tomatoes) with your choice sauce and fried or grilled chicken. Served with side. This is a great handheld option for someone looking for a lighter, yet filling, alternative to our classic burgers and chicken sandwiches. Be the first to try one this weekend!
Have one with friends alongside a few rounds of Buzzed Out!
Did you know we have gift cards?
It’s true! Give the gift of games and delicious food to the gamer in your life! Ask your server or librarian next time you’re in.
